SENIOR PROJECT ENGINEER

SENIOR PROJECT ENGINEER – MATERIALS / MECHANICAL / MANUFACTURING

The Senior Project Engineer will have broad responsibilities focused on executing and delivering advanced ceramic prototypes for government, defense, and commercial customers.  This is a hands-on role requiring excellent design, assembly, and process development skills to help develop methods, tools, and manufacturing systems for small volume/pilot-scale production of high precision ceramic components.  The Senior Project Engineer will apply his or her mechanical engineering and/or manufacturing expertise along with proven project management skills to ensure the timely execution of projects, meeting cost and schedule goals.  This position requires a self-motivated individual with experience in advanced materials processing including raw materials handling, forming, heat-treatment, machining, measurement, and testing of precision components. The successful candidate must have a professional work ethic, strong hands-on design and machining skills, and the ability to take on diverse responsibilities and interact with all levels of personnel in a small team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple government and commercial R&D efforts, leading project status and review meetings and providing leadership to project teams.
  • Report writing, technical communications, and presentation materials preparation for customer meetings and new business development activities.
  • Recording technical data and observations neatly and accurately in laboratory notebooks and on process data record sheets.
  • Active and direct support of CeraNova’s customers through meetings and other technical exchanges.
  • Working with suppliers and vendors to insure quality and on-time delivery of materials, tools, and products.
  • Provide hands-on direction and guidance to technical teams, mentoring engineers and technicians.
  • Help with the development and implementation of ISO-based methodologies and documents – may serve as the QMS Management Representative.
  • Contribute as needed to high-level business strategy and planning activities.
  • Oversee and insure the maintenance of a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Monitoring and maintaining supplies and equipment; communicating with equipment manufacturers and suppliers; overseeing maintenance needs and equipment repair.

Education

  • A minimum of 10  years’ hands on experience in product development, process engineering,  or manufacturing involving advanced materials.
  • B.S. or higher degree in Ceramics, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or other relevant discipline.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Demonstrated project management skills leading product and process development for adanced technical products.
  • Experience with Six Sigma practices including SPC, process capability, experiment design and advanced problem solving/root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge and understanding of ISO-related requirements and practices.
  • Excellent observation and data recording skills with understanding of equipment, testing, and experimental procedures including DOE methods and analysis.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications including MS Project.
  • Ability to work independently, efficiently, and to multitask in a fast-paced team environment; attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
  • Experience with SolidWorks with some CNC machining knowledge.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • An independent, self-starter, who is diligent and thorough with attention to detail is essential.
  • Comfortable in a small team, with broad responsibilities and the ability to switch tasks quickly.

Desired Skills / Experience:

  • Knowledge of ceramics powder processing and heat treatments.
  • Experience working on government contract research projects or programs.
  • Working knowledge of statistical analysis software such as Minitab or JMP.
  • Experience with mechanical system design and assembly methodologies.

 

OPTICAL FABRICATION TECHNICIAN

CNC OPTICAL FABRICATION TECHNICIAN

Opportunity for an Optical Fabrication Technician / Polisher with excellent work habits and strong skills to contribute to the development of innovative, advanced ceramic optical components. The position requires a self-motivated individual with precision optics experience to fabricate low volume, high precision ceramic optics.  The successful candidate must have a professional work ethic and a desire to work in a small team environment.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Performing grinding and polishing on CNC equipment to produce precision optical surfaces on hard ceramic materials.
  • Inspecting dimensions & tolerances using mathematical knowledge and instruments such as micrometers, sphereometers, interferometry and surface profilometry.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Recording technical data and observations neatly and accurately in a notebook.
  • Monitoring and maintaining supplies and equipment; communicating with equipment manufacturers and suppliers; overseeing equipment repair and maintenance needs.

Qualifications:

  • 3 years’ experience in optical fabrication/manufacturing; ceramics machining experience highly desirable.
  • Hands-on experience setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC equipment.
  • High School Diploma with proficient computer skills. Community College, Technical Certificate, or other higher education a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, efficiently, and to multitask in a fast-paced team environment; attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
  • Excellent observation and data recording skills with understanding of equipment, testing, and experimental procedures.
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, problem solving and communication skills.
  • Highly desirable but not required: 1) Ability to develop, load, run CNC programs to perform grinding and polishing operations; 2) CNC Programming experience using MasterCAM X4/X5/X6; 3) Metrology experience.
