Products: PZT MicroTubes
CeraNova's PZT ceramic MicroTubes can be fabricated in diameters from 125 µm to
1.25 mm and wall thickness to order. Applications for ferroelectric tubes
include: transducers, hydrophones, vibration sensors, accelerometers, and
micro-actuators.
Other technologies that may benefit from MicroTubes include flow sensors,
positioners, pressure sensors, deflectometers, medical imaging, and large-scale
actuators.
CeraNova has demonstrated its ferroelectric MicroTubes in active vibration
control composites. MicroTubes were bonded to a cantilever beam prototype
aircraft wing structure. Composites of
regularly spaced rods vibrating 180° out of phase with the source create
destructive interference, thereby canceling damaging, unwanted vibrations.
Active damping of 35 dB has been demonstrated, using
only a pair of 20 mm long, 1 mm diameter MicroTubes. This performance
could, for example, enable an aircraft wing that fends off turbulence to provide passengers
and crews with a smoother, safer ride.
